The project is aimed at characterizing a panel of PAC clones, at least one for each mouse chromosome, to be used as tag markers in mapping experiments. Mouse PAC clones (RPCI-21 library) have been hybridized to a peculiar 8I1-3 mouse cell line (QM-karyotype; DAPI karyotype) with multiple Robertsonian translocations
(Mus musculus domesticus, wmp/wmp) which allow an easy
identification of mouse chromosomes (generous gift of Dr. Hameister;
Cyt.Cell Genet. 71:37- 40, 1995). The RPCI-21
PAC library segment consisting of 132.000 clones constructed
from a female 129/SvEvTACfBr. The average insert size is 150
Kb, corresponding to 6 genome equivalents.
