Synteny block arrangement in HLA with respect to the block arrangement in the Hylobatidae ancestor (HyA Figure 3). The numbers reported to the right of each chromosome represent arbitrarily chosen landmarks useful in defining the chromosome composition and in facilitating the description of rearrangements, which are explained in the Supplemental Table ST2. The symbol “::” stands for break-and-reunion, as in classical cytogenetic nomenclature. If a chromosome was inherited unchanged from the HyA, the HyA nomenclature is also reported below the HLA chromosome number. HLA6 is almost metacentric. Its orientation (upside down with respect to literature data) was chosen to correspond with the orientation of the identical NLE2 chromosome.
